    Lin Dan has defeated Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei 21-12, 21-8 in the men's singles final at the 2008 Olympics. After winning, the crowd erupted when Lin tossed his racquet and shoes to fans. China has won golds in women's singles and women's doubles as well.


  • Korea takes mixed doubles gold
    It might be the biggest badminton upset of the 2008 Games: Korea's unseeded mixed doubles duo (Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung) has defeated Indonesia's top seeded Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir (21-11, 21-17) to win the gold. Indonesia takes home the silver.

  • Indonesia wins gold in men's doubles
    Ranked second in the world, China's men's doubles team (Fu/Cai) are second today as well. Indonesia (Kido/Setiawan) beat the team 12-21, 21-11, 21-16 for the gold. Indonesia also deafeated China in the women's singles match for bronze.


  • China's Chen beats Korea's Lee for bronze

    China's Chen Jin has won the bronze medal in a narrow defeat against Lee Hyunil of Korea (21-16, 12-21, 21-14). China has now won five medals in the sport of badminton.

  • South Korea wins bronze in badminton

    South Korea's Lee Jae-jin and Hwang Ji-man have won the bronze medal in men's doubles at the Olympic badminton tournament, defeating Denmark's Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen in three sets.



  • Bronze for Yulianti in women's singles

    Indonesia's Maria Kristin Yulianti has won the bronze medal in women's singles in the Olympic badminton tournament by defeating China's Lu Lan in three games. This denies China's hopes of a medal sweep.



  • Zhang Ning wins badminton gold

    Defending champion Zhang Ning of China has won the Olympic gold medal in badminton women's singles, defeating top-seeded compatriot Xie Xingfang 21-12, 10-21, 21-18.Xie Xingfang takes the silver.

    China's women's doubles team of Du Jing and Yu Yang won the first badminton gold of the Olympics. The host nation also won the bronze in the same event as it is occupying most of the medal finals.
