Aussies rule Group A
Australia erased a 16-point first-half deficit on Day 9, clinching the top seed out of Group A with a convincing 75-55 victory against Russia. The Aussies outscored Russia 50-18 in the second half.

Chris Paul's postgame claim was strongly supported on Day 8, when Team USA clinched the top seed out of Group B with a 119-82 thumping of defending world champion Spain. The U.S. is now 4-0 in Beijing.

The stated goal of the Chinese men's basketball team -- a quarterfinal berth -- has been reached, thanks to a 25-point effort from Yao Ming on Day 8 that led to a 59-55 win against Germany, who was eliminated.

After losing their Beijing opener, 2004 Olympic champion Argentina is now 3-1 and in second place in Group A after a third consecutive win, this one coming on Day 8 by a 97-82 score against Iran.

The three-time defending Olympic champion U.S. women secured the top seed out of Group B on Day 7 by beating Spain 93-55. Team USA blew open a close game, outscoring Spain 54-21 in the second half.

Russia and Australia guaranteed a Sunday showdown for the top seed out of Group A as each moved to 4-0 in Beijing on Day 7. Australia roughed up Latvia, while Russia pulled away from Brazil late.
