  • American Lagat advances to 5000m final
    Bernard Lagat advanced to the 5,000-meter final, hoping to salvage his Olympics and maybe start a rally Wednesday for the struggling U.S. track team.

  • Miankova's OR wins hammer throw
    Aksana Miankova of Belarus has won the gold medal in the women's hammer throw in an Olympic record.

  • Bolt strikes twice with another WR
    Usain Bolt completed his sprint double Wednesday with a gold medal in the men's 200m. Once again, the Jamaican blew away the field, but this time he ran through the finish and broke Michael Johnson's world record.


  • Heptathlon silver medalist in doping probe

    Lyudmila Blonska of Ukraine is under investigation for a positive doping test and could be stripped of her silver medal in the Olympic heptathlon.



  • Lolo falters; Harper takes 100m hurdles
    American Lolo Jones clipped the penultimate hurdle Tuesday evening and surrendered sure victory in the women's 100m hurdles. Teammate Dawn Harper surged to the win in a personal-best time of 12.54.


  • Richards fades to bronze in 400m

    Sanya Richards, the American favorite in the 400m, led the race until the final stretch Tuesday evening, when a leg cramp slowed her to a third-place finish. Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain won in 49.62. 

     



  • Liu: 'I feel very sorry'

    Liu Xiang, China's great hope for track glory at the Beijing Games, said he was "sorry" for his dramatic withdrawal from the Olympics.



  • First steps taken toward rematch

    Two days after Jamaica shut the U.S. out of the medals in the women's 100m, both countries advanced their three runners in the first round of the women's 200m, keeping alive chances for an anticipated rematch.



  • Isinbayeva wins gold, sets world record
    Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva set the women's pole vault world record for the 24th time in her career Monday evening, going 5.05 meters. Jenn Stuczynski of Fredonia, N.Y., earned the silver with a vault of 4.80.


  • Taylor leads U.S. sweep in 400m hurdles
    Angelo Taylor won gold for the U.S. Monday evening in the 400m hurdles, finishing in 47.25 -- a personal best. Teammates Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson followed him home for the sweep.


  • Brown Trafton wins discus gold
    After a hard rain, American Stephanie Brown Trafton surprised the women's discus field with a throw of 64.74 meters in her first attempt. It lasted, earning her the first U.S. gold in the event since 1932.


  • China's Liu Xiang out with Achilles injury
    Liu Xiang and all of China looked forward to this moment for years: The defending Olympic champion lining up to run the 110m hurdles at the Beijing Games. Because of an Achilles injury, he didn't even get to race.

  • Lagat, Americans out after 1500m semis
    Bernard Lagat of the United States failed to advance to the 1500m final Sunday, finishing .02 of a second behind the last qualifying time. Countrymen Lopez Lomong and Leo Manzano also were eliminated.


  • Shalane Flanagan: Perfect 10
    Shalane Flanagan of the U.S. talks about the lead-up to her first race at the Beijing Olympics and recalls her bronze-medal-winning effort in the 10,000m. She secured America's first medal in the event since 1992.


  • Jamaica sweeps women's 100m
    In a 1-2-2 Jamaican sweep, Shelly-Ann Fraser won the 100m on Sunday in 10.78 seconds, followed by teammates Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson in a tie for silver. American Lauryn Williams was fourth.
